This course teaches police officers how to use the SBAR communication tool to lead safer, faster, and more coordinated responses, especially during joint calls with crisis teams, EMS, or other services. SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) is a simple structure for sharing key information that helps prevent confusion, delays, and miscommunication. Originally developed for the Navy, aviation, and healthcare, SBAR has been proven to reduce errors and improve team decisions during high-pressure situations. Through clear examples, practice scenarios, and real-world tips, this course helps officers apply SBAR on scene, over radio, during handovers, and in debriefs — without slowing down the work. By the end of this course, participants will: Understand the purpose and history of SBAR Be able to apply SBAR during joint calls, handovers, and debriefs Use SBAR to help set the tone, clarify roles, and support safer outcomes on complex calls
